The work of the Assessment and Advice team covers several key areas.
They carry out assessments of clients visiting the Resource Centre, including establishing what their needs are and how they can be best met. The team also provides housing advice, making referrals into accommodation and advocating on clients behalf when they may be entitled to statutory housing provision.
There is also a specific service for Irish clients (through the Irish Persons’ Coordinator post, which is funded by the Irish Government Emigrant Support Programme). Against the backdrop of ever-decreasing housing stock and the tightening of criteria for many housing options, the team works hard to identify and diversify accommodation options for the clients who rely on The Passage.
The team was successful in finding accommodation for 115 of the 279 clients it assessed in the past year. In addition, it enabled a further 57 to reconnect with their home areas, which involved helping them to re-establish links with accommodation and health services, and with family and friends.
