An emergency coalition of homelessness services in Westminster will provide extended provision to rough sleepers in the borough to prevent people from sleeping rough in the extreme conditions.
Collectively The Connection at St Martin’s, The Passage and West London Mission will be operating services 24/7 with additional street outreach shifts to reach people on the streets, and encourage everyone into the warmth and safety of an emergency night centre.
The number of beds available will be more than double the normal cold weather provision to meet extra demand. A control centre has been established to help co-ordinate services in Westminster. This extended provision will last until Monday, 4th March.
Sleeping rough is dangerous all year round but when the temperature drops below zero, prolonged exposure to the cold increases the risk of death to people without a roof over their heads.
The priority for homelessness services in Westminster is for rough sleepers to access shelter and minimise any danger from sleeping out in the cold.
