Cookery/Baking Club Leader

We are looking to make the Cookery Club a regular fixture so are seeking committed volunteers who can volunteer once a week, fortnight or month depending on your availability on a weekday morning or afternoon on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Team Information

Passage House is a rapid response Assessment Hub aimed to support new rough sleepers with no local connection to Westminster to find a suitable pathway for them to sustain a life off the streets. For a lot of people this will mean returning to their home area and reconnecting with family or support networks. Men, women, couples aged 18 or over are offered accommodation a maximum stay is 28 days whilst we work with them to provide a pathway.

About this Role

What does the role involve?

This is a hands on role where you will be leading a cookery class for residents. It requires someone to take the reins to set up the club and you would be able to decide what you cook and teach the residents. Provided we can afford the ingredients! You’ll be:

• leading a cookery demo for a group of 8-10 residents
• breaking down a recipe into easy to teach steps
• teaching basic cookery skills, knife skills

What training do I need to complete and what support will I get?

• Volunteer induction
• Supervision from a Project Worker at Passage House & support from the Volunteering Team
• Travel expenses reimbursed according with our Finance Policy

  • teaching basic cookery skills, knife skills

Qualities needed:

  • Competent and confident cook - essential
  • Clear communicator and confident in leading groups – essential
  • Ability to teach basic knife skills
  • Able to break down recipes into easy to follow steps
  • Compassionate, kind and non-judgemental
  • Patience and able to motivate and engage others
  • Commitment and reliability
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • You’re able to maintain and respect The Passage policies and procedures
  • Level 2 in Food Safety or willingness to undertake the training

What you can expect:
