Reception Volunteer

Fridays 12pm - 4.30pm weekly with a minimum commitment of 6 months

Team Information

At our Resource Centre, we have 2 reception areas. One is for staff and visitors and the other for clients. This team manages the staff and visitors reception area. It is a busy environment dealing with general enquiries both in person and by phone, deliveries, visitors and providing administrative support to other teams within the Resource Centre.

About this Role

Volunteers in this role assist in the running of the main business/visitor reception including answer the phone, responding to general enquiries, greeting visitors, receiving donations in kind. They are supported and supervised by the Services Administrator.

Tasks will include:

  • Answer the main switchboard number
  • Transfer calls and take phone messagse
  • Respond to general enquiries both in person and over the phone
  • Greet visitors, staff and volunteers at the main entrance
  • Accept donations in kind
  • Assist with general admin duties such as shredding, filing, photocopying as and when needed
  • Maintain a tidy and welcoming reception area

Qualities needed:

  • You’re compassionate, kind and non-judgemental
  • You’re committed and reliable
  • You’re able to maintain and respect The Passage policies and procedures
  • You have an excellent level of spoken English and a confident telephone manner
  • You are reliable and have good timekeeping practices
  • You have good basic IT skills in particular Word, email, internet
  • You’re calm under pressure
  • You have a respectful and welcoming attitude
  • You’re alert and proactive
