Saturday Brunch Kitchen Support Volunteer – 8.30am – 12.30pm

The shift is 08.30 - 12.30 and the dates until the end of 2019 are 16th November and 14th December.

Team Information

The Primary Services Team is responsible for the provision of our laundry and meal services. Saturday Kitchen Support Volunteers are supervised by a volunteer supervisor.

About this Role

As a Saturday Kitchen Support Volunteer, you will volunteer as part of a team of six, working together to serve a cooked brunch to our clients. After service ends you’ll need to be part of the washing up and cleaning down effort. After all your hard work, you get to eat breakfast too!

We currently have four groups who rotate the Saturday shifts between them. One of our groups is looking to boost its volunteer pool and their volunteering dates form now until the end of the year are 16th November and 14th December.

Tasks will include:

  • Cooking a cooked breakfast
  • Serving food from the service counter
  • Operating the till, taking money and vouchers
  • Preparing tea and coffee
  • Collecting dirty dishes from the dining hall
  • Rinsing plates and loading/unlaoding the dishwasher
  • Pot washing by hand
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tables in the dining room and work surfaces in the kitchen
  • Wrapping cutlery in napkins ready the next day
  • Contributing to a cohesive working environment in the kitchen
  • Engaging with clients and contributing to a non judgmental welcoming environment

Qualities needed:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Able bodied - there is lifting & carrying involved & you will be on your feet for the duration of the shift
  • Positive and cheery approach to customer service
  • Adaptable, ability to do what needs need doing and switch between duties
  • Ability to demonstrate an inclusive and non-judgemental attitude
  • Ability to remain calm in a busy environment
  • Organised and able to perform tasks in a systematic way
  • Able to commit to regular shifts
  • Ability to adhere to The Passage values and kitchen safety practices
  • Willingness to undertake food hygiene training
