People, Performance and Culture Committee Member

We are looking for people with a good understanding of charity and/or the social housing sector to join our People Performance and Culture (PPC) Committee.

The Committee was developed to support and ensure that The Passage is the best place to work and volunteer at. It has been a thriving committee for over three years now, and the Committee has successfully supported our Excellence For All programme; in which we developed a series of projects to improve performance and communication across the organisation.

Location: Westminster, London

Remuneration: This is an unpaid voluntary role, however reasonable expenses may be reimbursed

Time Commitment: Four committee meetings per year at quarterly intervals

Report To: The Board of Trustees

Closing Date: 30th May 2025

Interview Date: TBC, held in London (SW1P).

The People, Performance and Culture Committee will assist the Board through its oversight of the Charity’s People strategy including being a magnet for talent, development and retention of that talent and the firm’s culture incorporating inclusion, diversity and mental and physical wellbeing.

On behalf of the Board ensure that policies and practices associated with the People, Performance and Culture strategy are consistent with the Charity’s values and prescribed culture and support its long-term sustainable success.

Scope:

The Committee will assist The Passage’s Board of Trustees:

  • Through its oversight of the Charity’s People, Performance and Culture Committee (PPC) strategy, including being a magnet for talent, development and retention of that talent and the firm’s culture incorporating inclusion, diversity, mental and physical wellbeing.
  • To ensure that policies and practices associated with the People, Performance and Culture strategy are consistent with the charity’s values and culture.
  • To oversee the development and delivery of the People, Performance and Culture strategy to include leadership and management, culture, knowledge and skills development, performance management and reward.

The Committee will:

  • Ensure that the Board and the sub-committees retain an appropriate structure, size and balance of skills to support the strategic objectives and values of the charity.
  • Oversee arrangements for senior appointments, including recruitment processes and succession planning.
  • Consider policies designed to enable the recruitment, wellbeing, motivation and retention of staff and volunteers.
  • Monitor key metrics and dashboards to support an assessment of the effectiveness and adequacy of the policy framework, the overall health of the charity and the extent to which the charity’s values have been successfully embedded.
  • Monitor culture and culture change, ensuring linkage with the associated levers such as talent planning, remuneration and any other matters within the committee’s scope.

Committee members are initially appointed for 3 years and can be reappointed for two further periods of 3 years; up to 9 years.
