Fundraising

How do I raise money?

If this is your first time fundraising for a charity, we’ll support you to achieve your Face the Unknown goals. We send out weekly emails which include fundraising tips, so look out for these. If you’ve not yet received them, please check your junk folder. If you still can’t find any emails from us since signing up, let us know by contacting [email protected].

Should I set-up a fundraising page?

Online fundraising is the easiest way to fundraise, and we recommend using GivePenny to get the best Face the Unknown experience. You can set up a page when you sign up here.

How much am I expected to raise?

We are extremely grateful for however much you can raise for The Passage, but we have set some goals and rewards to inspire you to hit your fundraising potential and help even more people who are experiencing homelessness.

When registering and creating a fundraising page, your target will be automatically set to £160. Everyone who raises £160 or more will receive a T-Shirt. If you raise above £80 you will receive a Face the Unknown medal.

If you don’t raise £160 you will still be able to take part. We encourage everyone to raise as much as they can.

How will The Passage use funds I have raised?

This year we have seen an increasing number of people coming to The Passage who are experiencing homelessness for the first time due to job loss and the difficult economic climate. We need to prevent people from sleeping out on the streets; even one night can have a devastating effect and make recovery, resettlement and the return to employment much more difficult. The money raised from our Face the Unknown challenge will go towards The Passage’s No Night Out service, which will put a stop to anyone having to spend a night on the streets.

Is there a deadline for paying in donations?

Pay in your donations by 14th July 2021.

How does The Passage receive the money being donated online?

The money that has been donated via the online site comes directly to The Passage. You do not need to worry about doing anything else except getting people to sponsor you 🙂

The challenge itself

Do I need a suitable level of fitness to take part?

We have two levels of fitness challenges for you to choose from. One beginner, one more challenging.  We recommend that you have participated in physical exercise prior to the challenge. If you have a medical condition or are unsure of your physical ability to take part in the event, please seek medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the participating in the event.

What happens if I haven’t received the challenge email?

If you haven’t received your challenge email the night before, please email [email protected] as soon as possible.

How do I remain safe during the challenge given current Coronavirus restrictions?

It is important that you stay up to date and follow the UK Government guidance, including from devolved nations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland when undergoing your challenge.

Restrictions and advice are likely to change over a period of time so in order to ensure you are remaining safe for yourself and other people we advise that you keep up-to-date with announcements and apply any new requirements and limitations to your fundraising.

Please consider carefully whether you wish to take on the challenge if you may be in vulnerable circumstances or be at higher risk from Coronavirus. Your safety is of the most importance.

What type of workouts can I expect to take part in?

Expect HIIT, yoga, jogging/running, burpees, lunges and more. This is an opportunity to try out new things, some tried and tested, some novel and unusual. The programme has been carefully curated and some famous names from sports and fitness will be involved. Most workouts will include video content, so you have someone to motivate you to keep going. There will be a choice each day so you can select something that suits the time you have, your fitness level and interests.

How long will the workout challenges be each day and what time?

They will range from 20-60 minutes long. You can choose to complete them at your preferred time of day. First thing in the morning, in the evening or whenever you have time. You will have the challenge the evening before, so you can plan ahead for the next day.

What equipment will I need?

Equipment needed: trainers; yoga mat; set of dumbbells or an alternative such as bottles or cans; towel – you will not need all of this equipment for every day it will depend on the challenge. We will let you know what is needed in the challenge email.

What if I miss a day?

Don’t worry, none of us is perfect! If you miss a day you can double up a day or add on an extra day after the challenge finishes. If neither of these are possible maybe consider making a £10 donation to The Passage in return for ‘free pass’ for that day.
