When Bruce*, aged 57, walked into The Passage, he was at risk of street homelessness, having lost a successful business he had run for many years. He was visibly both physically and emotionally tired.
Recognising the urgency of his situation, the team placed Bruce into emergency accommodation through our No Night Out service, giving him a safe place to sleep. They quickly identified a suitable property through one of The Passage’s trusted partner landlords.
For Bruce, moving day was a turning point – a moment full of emotion, relief and hope – as he held the keys to his own front door.
Bruce later wrote a heartfelt letter to The Passage, giving thanks to his key workers: “Get that woman a cape! Met her for my assessment and was given an appointment to see a flat on the very same day. In fact, two hours later I was given an address to view. Lovely lady, a very caring lady.”
Bruce’s journey is a powerful reminder that behind every homelessness statistic is a story of humanity and hope. With the right balance of practical support and emotional care, even the most fragile circumstances can lead to new beginnings. His story is not just one of recovery; it is one of resilience.
A donation of £75 could save someone from a night on London’s streets.
