We employ two full-time chaplains, a Catholic priest and a Daughter of Charity, who are assisted by two volunteer part-time chaplains – a priest and a religious sister.

In aiming to meet the spiritual and religious needs of homeless people at The Passage, they are sensitive to everyone’s needs and refer those of different faiths elsewhere if appropriate.

The chaplains visit and support clients in hospital, in prison and, sometimes, in detox centres, as well as those living in the community. They also lead occasional outings to church communities outside the city, pilgrimages to monasteries, churches and religious sites, and visits to art galleries and music events. Their service is one of presence and friendship, not of proselytising, and they attempt to be available at each of The Passage’s locations, and to share meals and conversations with clients.
