Job overview:

The Passage, in partnership with Westminster City Council, are piloting the role of modern slavery navigator for the homelessness to navigate through the victim’s journey to support and recovery. The project will capture data in terms of numbers of homeless people who are victims of modern slavery and also the impact of taking a navigator approach to victim support. The project has the initial duration of one year but it is hoped it will have a life well beyond the pilot as the project develops.

The Modern Slavery Navigator will support the Anti-Slavery Coordinator while providing front-line support to victims. The Navigator will take potential victims of modern slavery step-by-step through the victim support process until they are in a safe place. Working closely with homelessness services in Westminster, their work will focus on vulnerable adults safeguarding and safety in pre-NRM, post-NRM and no-NRM situations, while taking on board the risk of re-trafficking and/or further exploitation.

Job purpose

  • To be the first point of contact for homeless people who are identified as potential victims of modern slavery by The Passage and other homelessness charities in Westminster.
  • To conduct modern slavery assessments with potential victims ensuring they are carried out in a psychologically and therapeutic way.
  • To provide independent advocacy to victims post-identification, helping them navigate services, benefits and the advice they need across local or national providers.
  • To draw up psychologically informed action plans for potential victims ensuring they are person-centred and taking into consideration their views and wished outcomes.
