Kitchen Support Volunteer – Resource Centre

Location: The Passage Resource Centre, St Vincent’s Centre, Carlisle Place, Victoria, London, SW1P 1NL

Commitment: We are seeking individuals who can volunteer once a week or fortnight, but welcome individuals with more or less availability, as you can choose shifts on an online rota.

Although we are seeking volunteers across the week, we are most in need of volunteers for the breakfast shift.

Breakfast: 9.00am – 12.00pm, Monday – Friday
Lunch: 12.30pm – 3.30pm, Monday – Friday

Please note:

  • Applicants must be 18 years old or over
  • We will ask for personal references

About this volunteer role

You don’t need to be a MasterChef to volunteer in our kitchen, anyone aged 18 or over is welcome provided you can move around the kitchen. You will volunteer as part of a team of four to six volunteers, supervised by one of our chefs. Duties include serving hot food, serving tea/coffee, making up cutlery wraps, filling condiment caddies, washing up and clearing down at the end of service.

We are committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for everyone here at The Passage, regardless of who they are. There is an expectation that volunteers understand this and behave accordingly towards people using our services, other volunteers, visitors and members of staff. 

Main duties

  • Serving hot and cold food from service counter to clients
  • Preparing tea and coffee
  • Pot washing service chaffing trays by hand (they don’t fit in the dishwasher)
  • Loading dishwasher trays with plates, cutlery etc and operating the dishwasher
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tables in the dining room and work surfaces in the kitchen
  • Putting clean dishes/pots/cutlery away
  • Contributing to an effective working environment in the kitchen
  • Engaging with clients and contributing to a welcoming environment
