As the first organisation to identify the intersection between homelessness and human trafficking in the UK; today, The Passage has launched a new report that identifies the links found in New York.
Recognising that human trafficking and homelessness are global issues, The Passage has expanded its focus to uncover how these dynamics play out in major cities, producing reports in Dublin, Ireland, and now, New York City, USA.
The purpose of these reports is to:
- encourage dialogue and partnership working at a local, national and international level;
- help share good practice and support, encourage collaboration, and carry out research;
- establish a global approach to address the interlink between homelessness and human trafficking;
- work towards systemic change.

Working in partnership with Urban Resource Institute (URI) and NYC’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV)
This research highlights the shared mission of The Passage and URI to address the root causes of homelessness, exploitation, and abuse through holistic, trauma-informed approaches.
With decades of experience tackling homelessness in the UK, The Passage added a global perspective to the project, drawing on our pioneering work in addressing exploitation among people who are street homeless or vulnerably housed.

By leveraging the insights from this report and the expertise of organisations like URI and The Passage, we can better address the unique needs of trafficking survivors and ensure a safer, more equitable New York City for all,” said Saloni Sethi, Commissioner of NYC’s Office to End Domestic and Gender Based Violence.
