10 years ago, over 7,500 people were seen rough sleeping in London*. Most recently, a staggering 11,993 people were seen bedded down during the same timeframe. That’s a 58% increase in the last decade*1.
This year was also the first that more than 2,000 people were recorded to be rough sleeping on CHAIN in a single month (September and November 2023 both exceeded that threshold).
In 21st Century Britain, it is simply unacceptable that anyone is forced to spend a night on our streets. However, unfortunately it is becoming the reality for a rapidly increasing number of people.
Every day at The Passage, we see hope given to so many as their homelessness is prevented and/or ended for good. However, unfortunately, we are also seeing record numbers of people in crisis arriving at our door. This cannot continue.
The Passage believes that prevention is better than cure.
Between April 2023 and March 2024, we prevented over 800 people from spending their first night on the streets, through services such as our No Night Out scheme and Housing Solutions Service.
Working in Westminster – where homelessness rates are at their highest in the country – our services are needed now more than ever.

At The Passage Resource Centre, people can access immediate welfare services, whilst arranging a 1-2-1 assessment with our Resettlement Team; to discuss their housing situation and work out the most practical, and sustainable route away from the streets.
They may be referred to other departments within the charity, including our Education and Employment Service, Advice and Advocacy Team and/or one of our four accommodation services.
