Read below for real-life stories from those we support, who have kindly chosen to share their experiences with the world. We hope that this not only empowers those with loved experience, but also helps to bring real, systemic change to our society.

Alan’s story
Alan’s story acts as an important reminder of what the right support at the right time, can help someone to achieve; and what happens when crisis isn’t prevented.
Bruce’s story
When Bruce walked into The Passage, he was at risk of street homelessness, having lost a successful business he had run for many years.
Tom’s story
Tom was living and working in Stockport when he developed substance misuse issues. Thankfully, he was able to become clear of his substance misuse and moved in with his sister. But this was not a long-term solution.
Elizabeth’s story
Elizabeth once lived a life of elegance and financial stability – until a series of devastating events changed everything. While on holiday, her husband took his own life, leaving behind a lifetime of debt that she was now responsible for.
Philippe’s story
Formerly a company director and now a member of our Lived Experience Assembly (LEA), Philippe has come full circle; helping to shape The Passage’s services, policies, and strategies for people who are facing a homelessness crisis.
Bianca’s story
Newman Street helped give Bianca* her life back. Suffering from pronounced trauma due to her abusive father, life before The Passage was a whirlwind of depression, anxiety, and brain-fog.
Sean’s story
When a new job offer fell through, and his landlord decided to sell the property Sean was living in, he found himself homeless – with no money, support or accommodation. Thankfully, he found The Passage.
Peter’s story
Peter had a steady job in management and had been happily married to his beloved wife for 23 years. Life was good. Then Peter’s life changed unexpectedly. His wife died and he struggled to cope.
